I can't stand family members who are total bastards to me since birth (mine or theirs) until a certain date shows up and then we are supposed to hug and pretend we love each other knowing full well that they are just going to sh*t on me the next day.

I know what you mean, they want to act all phoney around the holidays..fuck em they dont give a shit about you the rest of the year. Ive stopped talking to 75% of my family because they are phoney assholes..including my selfish, uncaring mother and 3 out of my 4 sisters. They are nice to you when they want something, but the rest of the time are total dickheads.

That is, assuming that you WILL tell them what's on your mind.

Being of the same family, doesn't make them family.

We didn't invite the worst one. Damn is she pissed. It's funny to see a 30yo woman throw a fit. She really screwed us this year. Hell will freeze before I get an apology and she knows that's the only way she's getting back in.
This site is great.

Family

I think many people attach too much importance to the concept of having a family. Just because people are related, it doesn't mean they should feel obligated to spend time together. There are people in my family, who are complete jerks and if I never see them again, it will be too soon.

it is helpful, especially at family gatherings, to look 'round the room and think "who of you would I invite to my house if I was not related to you?" My list is usually short.
