Festivus in the Southern HemisphereSubmitted by instantjim on 25 December, 2006 - 12:49am.
Greetings from Australia. My family have decided to commence celebrating Festivus this year. I have just made our Festivus pole (Which in Australia is made from aluminIum). My family thought about trawling salvage yards, but that would have been too expensive, so I just used some old 3/4inch tubing I found in the shed. We will be celebrating Festivus as a week long event starting on Dec 25 (we don't celebrate Xmas)and finishing on Jan 1 - in order to make the most of the cheap food stuffs available in stores after Xmas. My question is: are there any other people in the Southern Hemisphere (especially Australia) who celebrate Festivus? |

Australian Festivus
Jim,
I know you are not the only one "down under" who celebrates Festivus. During December, we received e-mails from at least three people who were looking to buy Festivus Poles. Of course, shipping a length of aluminium pipe to Australia from the US would have been ridiculously expensive. I suggested they do as you did, find a source for the pipe locally and make your own.
We also had inquiries from Shanghai and England so the world is joining in the celebration.
By the way, there is a story as to why it's "aluminum" in the US vs. "aluminium" everywhere else. If anyone is interested, I can post a clarification.
