Sending Festivus cards this year...Submitted by DecaturHeel on 24 July, 2007 - 10:47am.
I'm thinking of sending Festivus cards instead of traditional Christmas cards this year....there are some nice ones I've seen. I didn't send any Christmas cards last year, but I'd get a kick out of sending Festivus cards. There's this selection that I found: Does anyone know of brick-and-mortar stores that carry Festivus cards? |

Get in the spirit!
I got a problem with ANYONE who thinks they can just BUY Festivus cards!
Giving Festivus cards is a fine practice. Don't be a yo-yo, they must not cost anything. Aluminum foil (used would be best) w/ marking pen writing to honor the Pole, and shredded whatever is a great idea.
Seal in a re-used envelope, or one made out of an old piece of paper folded-up and taped, and best if you don't pay for postage. Either recycle a stamp, hand-deliver, or use your noggin!!!!
FISTIVUS FOR THE RESTUVUS!
Buying cards? Make them!
Beautiful Festivus cards can be had by setting some standard typewriter paper and a box of crayons down in front of your favorite children and asking them to draw wrestlers. Or an aluminum pole. Or anything, really.
I'm growing concerned at the Festivus elitism being expressed here. Isn't buying stuff kind of antithetical to the whole idea? Remember Frank's epiphany while raining blows upon his dolly opponent during the Christmas shopping season! Remember the revelations of 1966!

i agree.
festivus is supposed to be anti-commercialism. i think the only thing that would be acceptable would be if you sent pictures of your last year's festivus celebration. celebrating festivus this year with friends, family, & coworkers on sunday the 23rd.

yeah!
Agreed! Seems to be the complete opposite of what Festivus stands for. Let's not turn it into Xmas Jr.!
Festivus Cards
You could also make your own cards and have them sent out to a printer.

My perfect Festivus Card ... home made: Save up those stinky magazine pages advertising perfumes in all the snootiest mags. Put the pages through a shredder. Put a large bunch (mixed scents) in a colorful envelope, addressed and with the warning "Open carefully, Festivus within". will

festivus cards
in the spirit of festivus cards should be simple maybe they should be sent with a pre-paid
grievance (prepaid otherwise it might cause another grievance) form or, maybe written on aluminum foil with magic marker, because of its high strength to weight ratio, plus if you get enough of them you can scrap them to offset mailing costs
Cards & Gifts for Festivus
I used to send lumps of coal, but with the energy crisis and the price of coal skyrocketing, I now send cards with the inscription "Made a donation to the Human Fund".
Also in the Festivus spirit I try and reuse postage stamps that have made it through the system. Unfortunately the Postal Inspector is so narrow minded and living in the past that receycling is a foreign concept...
